Alright, let’s be honest, no matter how many clothes we have, some of us never have anything to wear. It’s actually coz our wardrobes are stuffed with so many things that we don’t even remember what we own anymore. Now is probably the best time to rethink our styles and give our wardrobes the much-needed makeover.
Since many of us are still working from home, we’re trying to eat healthily, focus on our bodies, on our skincare, and on a lot of things that we’ve neglected for so long. Our clothing is a major one of them. It’s exciting, really! Read through our simple tips and you’ll understand that its gonna be fun to change up your wardrobe.
Okay, so this is the first most easiest thing to do. Just think about your wardrobe and look for ideas, maybe Youtube videos on how you can revamp your style. You’ll get a lot of inspiration from searching the web. Look for new trends, see what the current wardrobe staples are, and figure out whether you already have them or whether you need to get any new ones.
Just looking at other people’s blog posts and videos can be so inspiring, especially when they show their own closet and how they’ve organized it. Check out our blog post about 7 Must-Have Wardrobe Staples too.
So once you’ve got some ideas and inspiration, now would be a good time to really think of your current signature style. Write down a few colors that look good on you. Include the staples of course but also write down just a few colors that totally look good on you. It’s best to only stick to those colors when buying clothes. Also, decide on the kind of style you want to focus on. Is it elegant? Is it more casual and girly?
Really put some thought into this and make notes. Also, think of jewelry and shoes. Once you do this, you’ll be more clear about your signature style. It will make it easier when you go shopping too.
Now its time to clear out your wardrobe. Since you’ve decided on your signature style, you have an idea about the kind of colors you’d like to wear and the style you’d like to carry out. This makes it easier for you to clear out your wardrobe. Anything that doesn’t fit into your list you can take out. And also the clothing that doesn’t fit anymore, or outdated ones, you can clear them out too. Think of donating some if they don’t look too bad. If you have been holding on to pieces for a very long time without wearing them, now is a good time to think about why you’ve kept them and whether it would be a good idea to throw them away. Once you’ve done this, you’ll have a good idea about any new items you need to purchase.
Okay, so you’ve sorted out your wardrobe and decided on what you need. But before you click that buy button, think about what you’re getting. Maybe even sleep on it. If you’re planning to go shopping, have a look at a catalog for the shop and see what they have in store. Imagine yourself wearing the item you’d like to purchase. Think of how many times you’ll wear it and whether it will go well with your current wardrobe. Also, have a look at the list you created keeping your signature style in mind. Anything that doesn’t go in the list, don’t get those. And when you think and kind of sleep on it, you might change your mind about getting certain clothes. So patiently wait for a while, put some thought into the clothes you’re planning to get and make your purchase only when you’re absolutely convinced that those are what you’d like to wear
Not all of us can get the right sizes all the time. Sometimes, when we’re in between sizes, it could be hard to get clothes that are perfect for us. And we might end up wearing slightly loose-fitting clothes or tight-fitting ones even, coz we’re not able to get the size that we actually are. Finding a good tailor would be the best idea in such situations. Because the key to looking your best is to wear clothes that fit you well. With just a little bit of hemming or sinching of the waist, you could instantly look much more expensive and put together.
Our last piece of advice is to not spend too much on short term seasonal trends. These are trends that go away after a few months. So any clothes you buy during a season you may not wear them again at all or at least until the same season next year. It’s probably a good idea to decide on a budget and spend as little as you can with those items. If at all you have to throw away those clothes after you’ve worn them for one whole season, you wouldn’t feel too bad.
